Rolling into the now

a documentation of skateboarding,

the roots of creativity for artist gavin hugh troy

a mixed media showing of artwork

honoring skateboarding and creativity

GRINDLINE, a skate zine the artist made in the 1980’s, is the inspiration for this show. Re-making the zine, stickers & tee shirts are the base. Using xerox images from the zine, a series of works were created: screen prints on canvas, Xerox transfers, woodblock collage, skateboard shapes using found wood and bronze sculptures all come together.

“The roots of creative life began with skateboarding, creating something from nothing. Growing up in a time when skateparks were closing or being torn down, we built ramps, emptied swimming pools, skated ditches and rode the streets.” Taking pictures of all this, documenting the adventure through photography, eventually led this artist to pursue other forms of being creative within the fine arts. Gavin graduated from ASU in 1997 with a degree in mixed media from the School of Fine Arts. Since that time he has been painting and showing his work nonstop. He is thankful, also, for still being able to skateboard and share the stoke with his son and other riders.

A percentage of sales from this show will go into the Tucson Skate Park Alliance to help build more skateparks in Tucson!
